to the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area, 100 miles filled with simple pleasures and natural treasures, along one of America’s most historically significant waterways.  Numerous state parks, restored historical sites, recreational experiences, and an abundance of diverse wildlife can be discovered upon the storied banks of this unique outdoor museum.

This website, canaltour.org is designed to share site-specific information at over 200 outdoor locations from Chicago to LaSalle-Peru, Illinois.  Each of these locations has a sign which directs you to historical fun facts, nearby attractions, restaurants and other services for that location.  Some also include self-guided tours.
